Marie Mason is a long-time environmental and social justice activist and loving mother of two. In March 2008, she was arrested on charges related to Earth Liberation Front actions that occurred in Michigan in 1999 and 2000; no one was injured in the actions. On February 5, 2009, Marie received an outrageous 262 month sentence (a little under 22 years). The sentence was higher than even that asked for by federal prosecutors. Marie’s sentence is the longest given to any “Green Scare” defendant to date.

 In September 2007, Eric McDavid was found guilty of conspiracy to sabotage federal facilities in the name of the environment. The government’s case was based on the word of an FBI informant who was paid over $75,000 to fabricate a crime. Both of Eric’s co-defendants testified against Eric in return for a lesser charge. On May 8, 2008, Eric was sentenced to an outrageous 19 years and 7 months in prison for a crime that was never committed. Eric is appealing his conviction

But in the years intervening Jeff’s arrest and release, the FBI had carried out a series of indictments and arrests in an attempt to devastate the radical environmental and anarchist communities. Two of the people caught up in this maelstrom of repression were Eric McDavid and Marie Mason.

Facing a life sentence if she went to trial, Marie accepted a plea bargain in September 2008, admitting her involvement in the burning of an office connected to GMO research and the destruction of a piece of logging equipment. At her sentencing in February the following year, she received a sentence of almost 22 years.

Entrevista al eco prisionero Eric McDavid.

Eric McDavid fue detenido en Enero del 2006. Una informadora a sueldo del FBI, “Anna”, creó un crimen e imabucó a Eric para que se involucrase en él. Fue acusado con un único cargo de “conspiración” . Eric no había llevado a cabo ningún tipo de acción, por lo que podría decirse que fue acusado de un “crimen mental”. Eric se negó a cooperar con el gobierno y decidió llevar su caso a juicio, pero este estuve plagado de errores. Eric fue finalmente condenado a 20 años de cárcel.

JEFF: Eric, fuiste acusado de conspiración para dañar o destruir propiedad pública o privada mediante un incendio. ¿Cómo ocurrió? ¿Qué fue lo que llevó a todo aquello?

ERIC: Lo que me llevó a ser acusado de conspiración para dañar y /o destruir propiedad gubernamental y comercio interestatal es una larga historia, pero la versión corta es que tras el instituto hice algunos currillos (sirviendo mesas, de camarero, carpintería...) En cada uno de ellos miraba a mis compañeros más mayores para ver cómo sería yo, posiblemente, en 10 ó 20 años, y lo que ví no me gustó, así que decidí volver a estudiar para tratar de encontrar otro camino. Me empecé a preparar para impartir clases de filosofía cuando comencé a involucrarme en el movimiento anti-guerra de las protestas contra la invasión de Irak. Tras la primera marcha en San Francisco el 25 de Octubre, no había vuelta atrás... lo que sentí entre aquella masa de gente que llenaba las calles alimentó mi corazón de una manera que no había experimentado desde que era un crío... Me uní a un par de grupos pacifistas y asistí a varios encuentros sobre cómo afrontar la represión de la policía, para poder ayudar con la seguridad durante las manifestaciones. Pronto me sentí desmotivado al descubrir que la gente y los grupos que organizaban las manifestaciones no solo se juntaban para “actuar para detener la guerra y terminar con las violaciones”, si no que eran una especie de vanguardia política. Aquello hizo que me desvinculase de ellos. Entonces empecé a ayudar en “Estudiantes por la paz”, y en una de las reuniones, vi a un chaval con pintillas haciendo un fanzine, pegando papeles, doblando hojas... Me acerqué y le pregunte si podía ver uno. Él, sin apenas levantar la cabeza me dio uno y me dijo que me lo podía quedar. La “portada” era un rostro femenino, con rastas metálicas y estas palabras: “Species traitor” (no recuerdo el número...) Lo primero que pensé fue: “que raro”, así que lo metí en mi bolsa para leerlo más tarde. Aquel fanzine fue mi primera introducción a la crítica social que yo consideraba auténtica y tenía mucho que ver con cómo me sentía yo en aquel momento. Después de aquello, los umbrales empezaron a aparecer por todas partes y comenzó mi auténtico viaje, recordando quien era yo.

J: Fuiste víctima de una informadora a sueldo del FBI. ¿Cómo consiguió “Anna” ganarse tu confianza?

E: Algunos pueden pensar que es una actitud naif, pero yo de manera natural y de todo corazón confío en todo el mundo, soy así. Así que “Anna” nunca se ganó mi confianza, solo la manipuló, movía las cuerdas que ella había tejido en mi corazón, como si fuese una marioneta siempre que me veía salirme del camino que ella ya había escogido...

J: Según el estado, tu eres un terrorista. ¿Cómo te hace sentir eso? ¿Eres un terrorista?

E: Podría decir que resulta embarazoso, casi cómico... he tenido que aguantar que un montón de tíos traten de encasillarme en alguna categoría, pero soy bastante bueno en salirme del redil de cada una de ellas.

J: En el movimiento ecologista hay mucha contención en cuanto a los chivatos y en cuanto cómo afrontar el problema. En muchos casos han vuelto a las comunidades de activistas y se les ha recibido con los brazos abiertos o han continuado recibiendo apoyo. ¿Cuál es tu opinión sobre los chivatos y cómo crees que la comunidad activista debería lidiar con ellos?

E: Mi opinión sobre los chivatos es que cada uno es único y debe ser tratado como tal... Para aquellos que causan un alto grado de daños, creo que la severidad del trato que reciban por parte de sus amigos y sus seres queridos ha de ser recíproco... algunos serán perdonados por algunas personas, pero la opción que tomaron nunca debe ser olvidada por nadie.

J: Habiendo sido acusado de planear una destrucción de propiedades, ¿Cuál es tu opinión en esa táctica? ¿De qué manera trabaja este y otros movimientos para conseguir un futuro mejor?

E: Mi opinión sobre la táctica de la destrucción de la propiedad es que todavía no he encontrado un argumento viable que la deslegitime... (recordando que el Acta de Sedición de 1917 aún ha de ser revocada) Hipotéticamente hablando, es posible que algunas de las personas que eligen utilizar la gran variedad de tácticas que existen tengan que encontrar una que sirva para “bailar todos juntos”... por ejemplo, si hubiese una acción realizada por gente anónima, aquellos que han estado trabajando en ese mismo tema de manera legal, con el público, podrían utilizar ese flujo de energía para sus propios fines, así como aquellos de las áreas circundantes... dejemos que sea un efecto onda y que los chavales puedan surfear la ola antes de que la roca golpee al agua...

J: ¿Cómo es tu vida diaria? ¿Nos podrías explicar un día normal en prisión?

E: Un día típico, bien. Me levanto a las 5 o 5 y media para hacer rotaciones conjuntas y una sesión de yoga kundalini... Nos dejan salir de las celdas de 10 a 6, yo suelo ir a la sala de noticias a leer el tablón (casi siempre con una taza de café) , a esperar el primer “movimiento de recreación” a las 6 y 20... Fuera me estoy ejercitando hasta las 8 menos cuarto, a las 8 hago hago una hora de yoga, luego de vuelta a la celda a tomar algo de desayuno, y a leer/ escribir / responder correspondencia/ realizar proyectos hasta que nuestra unidad es cerrada... Como ligero los martes y los jueves debido a las clases de yoga para principiantes que imparto por las tardes. Normalmente suelo estar fuera, en el patio hasta las 3, cuando nos vuelven a llamar... vuelvo a las duchas antes de ser de nuevo encerrados para el recuento de las 4. Cuando nos dejan salir a veces leo o juego al dominó hasta que nos cierran. Los lunes y los viernes salgo a hacer las pruebas de presión sanguínea y masa corporal, otros días voy a la biblioteca para tener un poco de espacio y tranquilidad... Tras eso, nos encierran a las 9 y cuarto y yo caigo rendido tan pronto como la puerta se cierra... el “día de la marmota”, ya sabes, prácticamente solo las visitas y el correo cambia.

J: ¿Qué es lo que más echas de menos de estar en libertad o, como a mí me gusta llamarlo, de estar en “custodia mínima”?

E: Lo que más echo de menos de la “custodia mínima” es la DIVERSIDAD de todo. Estar con mi pareja, con los árboles, con mi familia, con perros, niños, ríos, el océano, las estrellas... las putas estrellas, los lagos... no hace falta decir que podría seguir nombrando cosas un laaaaargo rato.

J: ¿Cuál es tu consejo para la siguiente generación de gente que quiere involucrarse en crear un cambio?

E: Mi consejo sería que se explorasen seriamente y que aprendan a saber quienes son, no quienes piensan que son, o quienes la sociedad o alguna contra cultura les dice que son, si no quienes son realmente... Aprended y explorad quien nutre lo que sois (ya sean humanos o no humanos), y escuchad a vuestro corazón y a aquellos que os nutran como personas. Todo lo demás vendrá solo tras eso...

J: Claramente no puedes contestar esto sin parcialidad, pero, ¿Cómo es de importante el apoyo a los presos en esta lucha y en otras?

E: Si, seré totalmente parcial... Creo que el apoyo a los presos es una de las facetas principales del mosaico del que todos formamos parte. Apoyando a los prisioneros de guerra, o presos políticos que se han mostrado contrarios a la cultura generalizada y compartiendo el apoyo, nos abrimos a nuevas relaciones que son integrales para alimentar el cambio.

J: ¿Tienes esperanzas de futuro? Y si es así, ¿qué es lo que te da esperanza?

E: Yo no lo llamaría esperanza, pero tengo la corazonada de que siempre habrá aquellos que elijan escuchar y seguir lo que les dicten sus corazones en lugar de la programación de nuestra vida diaria a la que nos vemos sometidos.

J:Y finalmente, ¿qué necesitas o quieres? ¿Qué haría que tu estancia en la cárcel fuese más llevadera?

E: ¿Qué necesito para hacer que estar aquí sea más llevadero? ¿Aparte de lo obvio?... No es algo fácil de contestar... La gente ha estado continuamente ayudándome con mis peticiones de material de lectura, que aquí dentro ayuda mucho, y de vez en cuando encuentro un ingreso sorpresa entre mis libros... aunque lo que más me preocupa es la carga monetaria a la que hace frente mi pareja por los gastos que conlleva venir a visitarme... Ah! Y siempre es agradable recibir fanzines y publicaciones.

Never Alone: National Long-Term Anarchist Prisoner Support Tour, April 2012

It’s 2012. The world is ending. So what are we at Sacramento Prisoner Support and Marie Mason Support Crew gonna do? Go on an epic road trip to talk about prisoner support, of course! Because unless we actually make this the last year of their world, our comrades will still be in there the next.
The nationwide Never Alone tour will be crisscrossing the country in April 2012, featuring the usual suspects speaking about long-term anarchist prisoner support. Focusing specifically on the cases of Eric McDavid and Marie Mason, the tour will mark the spots where the events of these cases unfolded, using multimedia presentations to bring the facts of these cases to light.

As well as raising awareness and support for Eric and Marie, the tour will also feature strategizing about how to more effectively grow a culture of resistance that can breach the prison walls and sustain us and our friends for the long term, a security culture beyond 101 workshop (updated for 2012, now with extra tech!) and some awesome guest speakers. Truly, you won’t want to miss this.

When our friends and loved ones are snatched from us and held captive by the state, we become all too aware that we are never alone. The eyes of the state are always upon us, attempting to silence our voices and still our hands. To keep us from doing the work we know must be done. We must act despite this.

Because we also know that it is imperative that our friends on the inside know that they, too, are never alone. That we will stand by them throughout their time in prison, and welcome them with open arms when they return. That the struggles they were involved in continue on, and that they are empowered to continue on in struggle from inside the prison walls.

And we know that we can’t do this alone. We need the active support of our communities to give us the strength and courage to struggle for our friends and their freedom.

Our friends remind us of what is possible. They remind us that we don’t have to wait for permission to do what we know is right. They remind us that we are not powerless. Like Marie and Eric, we are tired of watching all that we love be destroyed by all that we hate. We know what needs to happen.

We are in it for the long haul.

About Marie Mason
Marie Mason is a loving mother of two and a long-time activist in the environmental and labor movements. In March 2008, she was arrested by federal authorities after her former partner, Frank Ambrose, turned informant for the FBI. Facing a life sentence if she went to trial, she accepted a plea bargain in September 2008, admitting her involvement in two acts of property destruction that occurred in 1999 and 2000 – damaging an office connected to GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) research, and destroying a piece of logging equipment. No one was injured in either act. On February 5, 2009, she was sentenced to just under 22 years. She is now serving the longest sentence of any “Green Scare” prisoner. About Eric McDavid
Eric McDavid was arrested on January 13, 2006 and charged with a single count of “conspiracy to damage and destroy property by fire and explosive.” No action ever took place. Eric was arrested after being entrapped by a government informant, known as “Anna,” who was paid over $65,000 for her work with the FBI. Eric stood strong in the face of great repression and refused to cooperate with the government, choosing instead to take his case to trial (even after both of his former co-defendants took a plea bargain and agreed to testify against him in court). After a trial riddled with errors, a jury convicted Eric in September 2007. Many of these same jurors later went on record making damning statements about the FBI. Two of them later submitted declarations to the court stating that they believed Eric deserves, at the very least, a new trial. Despite this, in May 2008, the judge in Eric’s case sentenced him to an outrageous 19 years and 7 months in prison. Dear friends and comrades!

On June 11th, 2011 events were held in approximately 30 cities across the globe in solidarity with Marie Mason, Eric McDavid and other long-term anarchist prisoners. Hundreds of people participated in this international event – and Marie and Eric have been receiving your words, your pictures,
your love and energy that were poured into making this day a celebration of resistance and an expression of solidarity with our friends and loved ones
on the inside.

Below are just a few excerpts from report backs from around the world. We
are including everything that we heard about - inclusion on the list does
not imply an endorsement.

In *Detroit* they raised $560 and will split the sum between Eric and Marie.
About 35 people came out to Detroit's Cass Cafe and heard talks on the cases
and their political implications, plus a speaker who just finished 20 years
of hard time in federal prison, who described from his experience in the
system what daily life is like for Marie and Eric. The highlight of the
evening was when Marie telephoned one of the organizers and everyone shouted
hello into the phone. She wasn’t able to talk to anyone else, but everyone
was buoyed by the phone call and so was she

In *Bloomington*, folks tabled and distributed materials at both the
Farmers' Market and at Boxcar Books. They were able to reconnect with some
of the 'older generation' who knew Marie when she lived here and with a
number of people who had never encountered the cases before. Boxcar is now,
also, carrying lots of information on Marie, Eric, June 11th and Marie and
Eric shirts!

In *Austin*, (occupied Tonkawa territory), Treasure City Thrift and Deep
Green Austin hosted a letter-writing event at Spiderhouse, a popular outdoor
cafe. They report: “As we wrote our letters, we complained about the
hundred-degree heat, until we realized how dumb it is to complain about the
heat while writing Eric and Marie... who will probably not be sitting at an
outdoor cafe with their friends any time soon.”

In *Israel *there were two events - one in Tel Aviv and the other in
Jerusalem. They raised $160 which we will be split 50/50. In Tel Aviv they
cooked an asian style meal: Sushi, spring rolls, seaweed and glass noodles
salad with Tapioca and bananas in coconut milk for desert. In Jerusalem they
held an event in the Mahatma- the Jerusalem veggie bar – where they served
an Italian style dinner. Pizza, Gezpacho, green salad, Antipasti and
Tiramisu for desert. About 30 people attended each event.
During both events they sold zines, cd's, tshirts etc. After the meal in Tel
Aviv there was a drag show which is well known and much appreciated in the
radical scene in Israel. The show deals with animal rights, the environment,
human rights, militarism, queer politics etc- Its called "The mice and Leah
Goldberg horror picture show." In Jerusalem they screened a movie about
animal liberation. Before both shows there were talks about Marie and Eric
and about the situation in the US, green scare etc.
After both shows people wrote postcards to Marie and Eric and took pictures
of people holding a sign that reads "I support Marie Mason" and "I support
Eric McDavid".

In *Columbus*, OH, Redbird Prison Abolition staged a reading of Accidental
Death of an Anarchist and raised $54 for Amelia Nichol, which Insurgent
Theatre matched for a total donation of $108. The event generated insightful
discussion and laid the groundwork for building a stronger, more cohesive
community.

In *Minneapolis, *they made $150 and had over 30 letters written. They
invented a nutritional yeast bacon cupcake (which is pretty much the ideal
brunch cupcake) and watched the Lorax. It was a moving time, and they had a
tele conference with Eric's partner that brought people to tears.

In *Sacramento*, there was a film screening of “Better This World” which was
attended by both of the filmmakers (who did Q&A afterwards). About 30 people
were in attendance. The event began with a talk about Eric and Marie, then a
former political prisoner spoke about his experiences before, during and
after prison. Over $100 was raised to be split between Eric and Marie. They
also debuted new “Stop Snitching” shirts designed by local artists, the
proceeds of which will go to Eric and Marie.

In *San Francisco*, they raised over $2200! The evening began with a line of
people out the door waiting to attend the soon-to-be Standing Room Only
event. Former political prisoner, Jake Conroy of the SHAC 7, spoke about
Marie and Eric's cases, his own experiences in prison, and the importance of
supporting those currently incarcerated. They then screened the new
award-winning documentary *If A Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation
Front*. The movie tells a powerful story that at times reflects Marie and
Eric's own experiences. The evening was capped off by an amazing vegan bake
sale, silent auction, and raffle which left attendees with full stomachs and
some amazing items.

“Never Alone” Tour in April 2012 supports eco-prisoners Eric McDavid and Marie Mason

Sacramento Prisoner Support and the Marie Mason Support Crew Announce “Never Alone: National Long-Term Anarchist Prisoner Support Tour” in April 2012. Below is their call to get involved.

“It’s 2012. The world is ending. So what are we at Sacramento Prisoner Support and Marie Mason Support Crew gonna do? Go on an epic road trip to talk about prisoner support, of course! Because unless we actually make this the last year of their world, our comrades will still be in there the next.

The nationwide Never Alone tour will be crisscrossing the country in April 2012, featuring the usual suspects speaking about long-term anarchist prisoner support. Focusing specifically on the cases of Eric McDavid and Marie Mason, the tour will mark the spots where the events of these cases unfolded, using multimedia presentations to bring the facts of these cases to light.

As well as raising awareness and support for Eric and Marie, the tour will also feature: strategizing about how to more effectively grow a culture of resistance that can breach the prison walls and sustain us and our friends for the long term, a security culture beyond 101 workshop (updated for 2012, now with extra tech!) and some awesome guest speakers. When our friends and loved ones are snatched from us and held captive by the state, we become all too aware that we are never alone. The eyes of the state are always upon us, attempting to silence our voices and still our hands. To keep us from doing the work we know must be done. We must act despite this.

Because we also know that it is imperative that our friends on the inside know that they, too, are never alone. That we will stand by them throughout their time in prison, and welcome them with open arms when they return. That the struggles they were involved in continue on, and that they are empowered to continue on in struggle from inside the prison
walls.

And we know that we can’t do this alone. We need the active support of our communities to give us the strength and courage to struggle for our friends and their freedom.

Our friends remind us of what is possible. They remind us that we don’t have to wait for permission to do what we know is right. They remind us that we are not powerless. Like Marie and Eric, we are tired of watching all that we love be destroyed by all that we hate. We know what needs to happen.

We are in it for the long haul.

About Marie Mason
Marie Mason is a loving mother of two and a long-time activist in the environmental and labor movements. In March 2008, she was arrested by federal authorities after her former partner, Frank Ambrose, turned informant for the FBI. Facing a life sentence if she went to trial, she accepted a plea bargain in September 2008, admitting her involvement in two acts of property destruction that occurred in 1999 and 2000 – damaging an office connected to GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) research, and destroying a piece of logging equipment. No one was injured in either act.

On February 5, 2009, she was sentenced to just under 22 years. She is now serving the longest sentence of any “Green Scare” prisoner. Marie is currently being held in an incredibly restrictive unit at the prison in Carswell, TX. Other political prisoners, such as Lynne Stewart, are also housed there. About Eric McDavid
Eric McDavid was arrested on January 13, 2006 and charged with a single count of “conspiracy to damage and destroy property by fire and explosive.” No action ever took place. Eric was arrested after being entrapped by a government informant, known as “Anna,” who was paid over $65,000 for her work with the FBI. Eric stood strong in the face of great repression and refused to cooperate with the government, choosing instead to take his case to trial (even after both of his former co-defendants took a plea bargain and agreed to testify against him in court). After a trial riddled with errors, a jury convicted Eric in September 2007. Many
of these same jurors later went on record making damning statements about the FBI. Two of them later submitted declarations to the court stating that they believed Eric deserves, at the very least, a new trial. Despite this, in May 2008, the judge in Eric’s case sentenced him to an outrageous 19 years and 7 months in prison. POLITICAL PRISONER CORRESPONDENCE AND THE FBI

Recently we began receiving documents in response to a FOIA request we filed with the FBI about Eric McDavid. The documents have uncovered a few alarming pieces of information, but one in particular we felt it necessary to share with the public as soon as possible. For years people have been speculating that writing political prisoners would result in a person being “put on a list.” Unfortunately, it seems that those speculations were not unfounded.

We have received perhaps hundreds of pages documenting Eric's correspondence with other people. These letters are not just kept on file – the Sacramento County Main Jail forwarded all of these letters to the Sacramento FBI field office, which then forwarded them to local field offices around the country (and to law enforcement internationally) to warn the FBI in other cities of a “possible environmental/animal rights extremist” or “a possible anarchist extremist” in their community. Originally, the FBI's communications included a statement that “Sacramento is forwarding this communication for information purposes only.” But later, they began including a much longer statement which read, in part: “this information has been determined to be of such a nature that some follow-up as to the possibility of criminal activity is warranted...” These statements were included no matter what was the content of the letter – often the documents include the statement that the letter was “benign in nature.”

It is unclear whether or not the FBI is still forwarding Eric's correspondence to local field offices. We have not received any documents dated after his move to a federal facility. It is also unknown whether or not all correspondence with political prisoners is treated in the same manner. What we do know is that if a person sent Eric a letter to the Sacramento County Main Jail with their full name and address on it, the local FBI field office more than likely now has that information.

We are not sharing this information to raise alarm or spread fear. We have every intention of continuing to write political prisoners, and we urge others to do the same. That said, we hope to expose the FBI's politically motivated investigations and, unlike the FBI, we believe people have a right to know when they have been spied on. This kind of government intrusion could cause the “chilling effect” so often thrown about in conversations about 1st amendment activities. But when we give in to those fears, political prisoners are the ones who suffer. And this is exactly what the government wants. The state is constantly trying to expand its reach by gathering information about social movements and those who participate in them. Instead of letting this new information scare us into silence, we should use it to make informed decisions about how we support and prioritize political prisoners. This kind of repression has implications for more than just people involved in “activism.” Millions of people are incarcerated in this country. It is possible that the government uses similar tactics to investigate other communities that they actively repress. Writing our friends, family members and comrades should not be a justified excuse for investigation – no matter who our friends are.

We are attaching three documents. The first is typical of the documents the FBI sent towards the beginning of Eric's time at Sac County. The second is an example of what they sent to international law enforcement agencies. The final document is an example of the later version with the language about “follow up” being “warranted.”

Lettera della compagna di Eric McDavid, prigioniero “Green Scare”

Quella che segue è una lettera scritta da Jenny, partner di Eric Mc David e fatta circolare attraverso l’ELP Support Network ( Earth Liberation Prisoners Support Network). Eric Mc David è una delle vittime della campagna di repressione nei confronti del movimento eco-animalista in America nota come “Green Scare”, un nome che ricorda la tristemente celebre “Red Scare”, ovvero la persecuzione da parte del governo americano negli anni ‘40 di “nemici interni” identificati al tempo in comunisti ed anarchici.

Eric Mc David è stato condannato a 20 anni per un crimine che G.Orwell nel suo “1984” aveva identificato come “psico-reato”. Non è stato incriminato per aver organizzato o portato a termine azioni dirette, nessun tipo di danneggiamento o incendio è in alcun modo collegato con il caso di Eric.

Quello che Eric ha fatto è stato essere inconsapevolmente coinvolto da una informatrice dell’FBI, tale “Anna”, nella organizzazione e progettazione di una mai realizzata azione diretta insieme ad altre due persone che durante il processo hanno testimoniato contro di lui per ottenere sentenze ridotte.
Il caso di Eric Mc David è esemplificativo di quello che un governo (ed un giudice al suo servizio) sono in grado di fare per distruggere la vita di coloro che intendono opporsi alle loro politiche, ai loro progetti di devastazione del nostro futuro e del pianeta sul quale viviamo.
Al contempo, la lettera di una persona che dopo 6 anni ha la forza e la determinazione di esprimere le proprie emozioni e considerazioni su qualcosa che così profondamente influisce sulla propria esistenza e le proprie relazioni merita di essere condivisa e fornisce molteplici spunti per portare avanti le proprie lotte, con sempre in mente coloro che stanno pagando il prezzo più alto per aver deciso di non restare indifferenti.
Per chi volesse scrivere ad Eric Mc David, o a qualsiasi altro prigioniero di lingua inglese, ma non conosce abbastanza bene la lingua per poterlo fare e vogliono una mano, basta inviarci la lettera (o le parti che non si riescono a tradurre) alla mail indicata in “contatti” e vi re-inviamo la lettera tradotta non appena possibile.

Cari amici,

Oggi ricorre il 6 ° anno di arresto e incarcerazione di Eric. Non sono certa del perché mi sento sempre costretta a commemorare questo giorno – il
ricordo risveglia il molto dolore sofferto, la rabbia e la frustrazione. Non è davvero qualcosa che mi fa piacere ricordare. Ma è anche qualcosa che non potrò mai dimenticare. Quel giorno ha alterato per sempre il corso della vita di Eric – e la vita di tutti coloro che lo amano.

Ma so anche che ricordare è una nostra responsabilità. In primo luogo per ricordare il perché Eric è stato arrestato- non perché nulla è stato bruciato o danneggiato, ma perché ha osato pensare di poter cambiare le cose. E non ha chiesto alcuna autorizzazione a chi non gliela avrebbe mai data. Eric è stato arrestato – e condannato a una quantità spropositata di anni in prigione- a causa delle sue idee politiche.

Dobbiamo anche ricordare che cosa significa veramente essere solidali – con Eric e tutti i nostri altri compagni dietro le sbarre. Dobbiamo ricordare che essi sono ancora qui. Sono tutti ancora una parte del nostro movimento e abbiamo bisogno di agire – Ogni giorno – per includerli all’interno di esso. E, cosa più importante, dobbiamo continuare le lotte per le quali hanno dato tanto.

E dobbiamo ricordare che a volte le cose cambiano dall’oggi al domani.
A volte i nostri cari vengono strappati da noi. Non vi è alcun modo per prepararsi davvero ad una esperienza così straziante, ma quello che possiamo fare è ricordare di usare il tempo che abbiamo oggi ed esserci, gli uni per gli altri. Amare senza paura. Mai dare per scontato il tempo che condividiamo con l’altro. Il tempo è un dono prezioso.

Recentemente, ad Eric e me è stato restituito qualcosa che ci era stato rubato 6 anni fa. Io non ho nessuno da ringraziare. Di principio, non avrebbero mai dovuto rubarcelo . Ma non posso dirvi quanto io sia stata felice nel momento in cui questa cosa ci è stata ridata. Il 21 novembre, durante la nostra visita a Terminal Island, Eric si è proteso oltre il “tavolino” posto tra noi, ed ha afferrato le mie mani. Ad Eric e me non era stato permesso di sedere insieme e toccarci le mani per 6 anni. Il contatto umano è parte integrante nella conduzione di una vita sana e felice. Non essere in grado
di toccare le persone che si amano è una tortura. E ‘crudele ed inumano.
(Immaginate di guardare una persona amata piangere e di non essere in grado di asciugare via la loro lacrime, o tenere loro la mano …) . Il contatto approfondisce i nostri legami con gli altri – si muove al di là delle lingue in un regno che le parole non possono contenere o
spiegare. Naturalmente, il potere sa tutto questo, ed è probabilmente il motivo per cui ci è stata negata questa possibilità per tanto tempo. Siamo perfettamente consapevoli che ci potrà essere portata via di nuovo in qualsiasi momento. Ma per ora ci godiamo ogni secondo di essa.

E così mi ricordo anche di questo – non prendere mai nulla per scontato.

Eric e io desideriamo esprimere il nostro sentito ringraziamento a tutti voi.
E ‘evidente per noi che molte persone non hanno dimenticato. Eric continua a ricevere i messaggi da persone in tutto il mondo – vi prego di continuare così! Ama potervi leggere. Voi siete il suo collegamento con il mondo esterno – con i movimenti, i luoghi e le idee a cui tiene. Mantenere stabilmente queste connessioni è di incredibile importanza per lui.

E a tutti voi che avete donato al fondo di sostegno di Eric – non avete idea di quanto siamo grati. Queste donazioni non solo aiutano Eric con cose
come francobolli, cibo e oggetti personali da poter comprare o con il pagamento delle telefonate- contribuiscono anche al fondo visite, per lui ed i suoi cari. Queste visite sono fondamentali per mantenere tutti noi sani di mente. Sarebbe impossibile per noi visitarlo tutte le volte che attualmente facciamo senza il vostro aiuto.

Eric ed io sentiamo il vostro supporto giorno dopo giorno. “Grazie” non potrebbe mai essere abbastanza…

Eric ha scontato 6 anni di una condanna a quasi 20 anni. A volte questo pensiero
è quasi schiacciante. Ma poi mi ricordo. Mi ricordo di Eric, di chi è e di come ha resistito di fronte a tutto questo. Ricordo tutti voi e quanto amore e sostegno abbiamo sentito provenienti da tutte le le direzioni. E ricordo che siamo in grado di farcela

Radio Interview with Sac Prisoner Support about Eric McDavid

Interview with Jenny of Sacramento Prisoner Support about the case of Eric McDavid. Eric was entrapped by government agent "Anna" in early 2006 in a fake plot to blow up a dam. Anna used FBI money to recruit, house and transport her fake eco-cell. After the arrests, Eric's co-defendants took cooperating plea-deals and testified against him. Eric was then tried and convicted of conspiracy and sentenced to 20 years.

Sac Prisoner Support has supported Eric throughout this experience and is developing long term strategies. An international day of action is called this June 11th, 2011 in solidarity with Eric and eco-defender Marie Mason. For more information about the day of action visit: http://june11.org
