Carta de Athina Tsakalos

El abogado Ragousis entregó a lxs jueces la carta de Athina Tsakalos, madre de los hermanos Gerasimos y Christos. Ella misma estaba presente en la sala judicial pero se nego a declarar. Presentemos su carta completa al final de este resumen (el origen de las citas hemos añadido nosotrxs, lxs traductorxs) . La carta no fue leída en los juzgados, el presidente del tribunal simplemente anunció que “va a ser añadida a las actas”.

Me estoy preguntando,¿ Porqué se está citando al juicio a los padres de los anarquistas-revolucionarios de la Conspiración de Células del Fuego? ¿ Porqué me están citando a mí? ¿ Lo hacen para preguntarme si sé algo sobre esta organización? ¿Para hacerme preguntas sobre la vida personal de mis hijos, esbozar su “perfil psicológico” o hacerse opinión sobre su “ámbito familiar”? ¿O para preguntarme si estoy de acuerdo con los acciones de mis hijos y en general, de la organización? ¿Para tenerme de pie frente a esa tribuna, sobre la cual han apoyado este pequeño libro, para obligarme a jurar a aquel dios que ustedes han puesto al servicio del Poder? ¿Para hacer que los anarquistas-revolucionarios se sientan incómodos cuando sus padres escuchan unas preguntas torpes? ¿ O para que ustedes mismos se alegren pensando que nos hicieron creer que somos nosotros quien debe rendir cuentas y hacer una apología?
Declaro, una vez más, que en ningún caso voy a responder positivamente a vuestra invitación. Y ya que, como muestra todo lo que está pasando, seguirá toda una serie de semejantes juicios, os digo que no vale la pena mandarme más citaciones porque mi postura seguirá siendo la misma. En ningún caso voy a asistir a este juicio. No voy a responder a ninguna de vuestras preguntas. La acción de mis hijos y sus compañeros era y es claramente política y anarquista-revolucionaria y por esto no es necesario investigar los parámetros de su vida privada.
La organización, la pertenencia a la cual han asumido, había formulado sus posiciones con una total claridad, precisión e intrepidez. Cualquier cosa que pudiera decir yo sería poca e insignificante. Y puesto que me gustaría dejar algunas cosas claras y fuertes como lo son y porque no quiero ofrecer a nadie la satisfacción de arruinarlo todo con unas preguntas estúpidas y sobrantes, estoy eligiendo la postura de la ausencia.
Refiriéndome a este juicio no quiero dejar que una frase, la que continuamente y con ardor y tensión se está repitiendo, está por el aire como una posible muestra de osadía y rectitud. Se trata de la frase: “Nosotros juzgamos examinando el caso profundamente.” Algo que significa que, como lo dicen ustedes, están juzgando de acuerdo con nada más que las clausulas de vuestras leyes. Algo que significa que ustedes van a juzgar basándose en las pruebas y no en los indicios concluyentes o según la lógica de responsabilidad colectiva. Y si estoy mencionando esta frase no es porque de repente espero unos milagros, sino porque en algún momento y especialmente en los casos que tratan la acción revolucionaria de algunas personas, las palabras deben tener la importancia y responsabilidad. A pesar de que hasta ahora este procedimiento jurídico no presagia nada parecido. Todas las objeciones basadas en una lógica común, como la de reconocer a los presos como unos presos políticos ( así como lo define vuestra Constitución y además de exactamente misma manera está mencionado también en la acusación), fueran rechazadas así de simple, sin ninguna lógica. El concepto de asumir la responsabilidad política queda confundido con la responsabilidad penal y eso obviamente no debido a la ignorancia o fortuitamente. Por lo tanto, subrayo a esta frase y en el final del proceso se podrá ver si lo que están diciendo lo dicen en serio.
Es verdad que desde que empezó la persecución penal de los contemporáneos anarquistas revolucionarios, he descubierto y he prestado una atención particular a un cuadro. El cuadro de Brueghel llamado “ Paisaje con la caída de Ícaro”. El vuelo de Ícaro tiene que ver con el deseo del ser humano de escaparse de la tracción de la tierra. Volar. Ser soberano también en el aire, andar también sobre el aire…
Es el orgullo, la arrogancia, la desobediencia y las ganas de mostrar que el ser humano es capaz de hacer lo todo. Y ahora viene el pintor y en el primer plano pone al agricultor. Dedicado al cultivo de la tierra, no le importa nada más. Y en el segundo plano el pastor, un poco más curioso, pero también él está mirando en una dirección equivocada. Luego el barco imponente que sigue con su viaje y ahí en la esquina un pequeño y pobre pie del Ícaro ahogado. Quitar la gloria del proyecto de Ícaro en tal manera… nunca lo vi antes. Y eso tal vez no es por casualidad, no sé que era la filosofía de este pintor, quizás significa que la gente contemporánea de un experimento atrevido es tan fijada en sus costumbres, teme tanto el cambio y no se atreve de reconocer o probar a algo nuevo.
Mirando el cuadro no acepto que se quite a esta gloria. Ahora, cuando en nuestro país son juzgadas personas que todavía tienen la osadía de creer que si hay algo que vale la pena en esta vida son los proyectos de Ícaros, cuanto dolor estos reservan, cuanto encierro y condenas les impongan. Quiero tener la esperanza y creer que alguna vez la gente contemporánea de aquellas rebeldías, ponga en primer plano y reconozca la urgencia del vuelo.

Postdata. Y si mando esta nota es porque la insistencia de los juzgados en mi presencia ahí es muy particular y sobretodo porque no me permito a mi misma el silencio. El silencio corresponde sólo a los muertos y en nuestros tiempos queda aplicado durante estos juicios, por parte de los completamente sometidos a los ordenes del Poder.
Y si de verdad quieren entender a cuáles personas están juzgando, leen su discurso y miren su postura. Christos Tsakalos, Gerasimos Tsakalos y Panagiotis Argyrou se encuentran el el día 12 de huelga de hambre y declaran : “Los tigres de la cólera son más sabios que los caballos de la instrucción” (William Blake) y “Cuando uno no muere para el otro, estamos muertos ya” (Tasos Livaditis)…
El 17 de abril iniciaron la huelga de hambre en apoyo a sus compañeros Giorgos Polydoros, Damianos Bolano y Haris Hadzimihelakis, mientras que los demás miembros de la célula encarcelada de la Conspiración de Células del Fuego les seguirán en unas fechas determinadas.

Athens, second ‘Halandri case’ trial: Letter of Athena Tsakalou to the court

On April 20th, in the special court-martial of Koridallos women’s prisons where one more trial session of the second ‘Halandri case’ took place, Michalis Nikolopoulos read his request for postponement of the trial and then another statement by Christos Tsakalos and Damiano Bolano (both comrades were absent from court due to their hunger strike). Later, the defense attorney Frangiskos Ragousis handed the judges a letter from Athena Tsakalou, the mother of Christos and Gerasimos Tsakalos. She herself was present in the courtroom but she refused to testify. The letter wasn’t read in court, and the presiding judge simply announced that ‘it will be added to the transcript.’ The complete letter is as follows:

TO THE COURT

I am asking myself: why are parents of the anarchists–revolutionaries of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire being subpoenaed to trial? Why are they subpoenaing me? Are they doing it in order to ask me if I know something about the organization? To ask me questions about the personal lives of my sons, sketch out their ‘psychological profile,’ or get an opinion on their ‘family life’? Or to ask me if I agree with the actions of my children and, in general, those of the organization? To stand me up in front of this court, supported by that little book, and make me swear to that god you have placed in the service of Power? To make revolutionary anarchists feel uncomfortable while their parents are asked a bunch of awkward questions? Or is it so that you yourselves can rejoice at the thought that you have made us believe it is we who must give the answers and make an apologia?
I declare, once again, that in no instance am I going to respond positively to your invitation. And since, as demonstrated by everything that’s going on, an entire series of similar trials is set to begin, I tell you that it’s not worth the effort to send me more subpoenas because my position will continue to be the same. Under no circumstances am I going to attend this trial. I will not answer a single one of your questions. The action of my children and their comrades was and is clearly political, anarchist–revolutionary, and it is therefore unnecessary to investigate the parameters of their personal lives. The organization, membership to which they have admitted by claiming political responsibility, has formulated its positions with total clarity, precision and boldness. Anything I could say would be slight and insignificant. And since I would like to leave certain things as clear and potent as they already are, and because I don’t want to give anyone the satisfaction of ruining everything with stupid and excessive questions, I am choosing the position of my absence.
Referring myself to this trial, I don’t want to allow a certain phrase—one that is continually repeated with great zeal and emphasis—to hang in the air as a potential display of temerity and honesty. I’m talking about the phrase: ‘We are trying the case by examining it in depth’; which means that, as you say, you are trying the case in accordance with nothing less than the clauses of your laws; which means that you will pass judgment based on evidence, and not on the circumstantially conclusive or according to the logic of collective responsibility. And if I am mentioning that phrase it’s not because I suddenly expect miracles, but because at a certain moment—and especially in cases dealing with people’s revolutionary action—words must take on importance and responsibility; despite the fact that, thus far, this judicial process has indicated nothing of the kind. Every objection based on common logic, like that of recognizing the Prisoners as political prisoners—exactly as defined by your Constitution and in exactly the same way it’s also mentioned in the charges—, was rejected out of hand, without any logic. The concept of assuming political responsibility has been mistaken for criminal responsibility, and that’s obviously not due to ignorance or chance. Therefore, I underscore that phrase and at the end of the trial we will be able to see whether you are indeed serious about what you are saying.
It’s true that, since the beginning of the prosecution of the contemporary anarchist revolutionaries, I have discovered and paid particular attention to a painting: Bruegel’s painting entitled ‘Landscape with the Fall of Icarus.’ The flight of Icarus has to do with the human being’s desire to escape the land’s grip, to fly; to prevail also in the air, to also walk on air…
It is about pride, arrogance, disobedience and the desire to show that the human being is capable of everything. And now the painter places in the prevailing foreground the farmer—dedicated to the plowing, to the soil, nothing else matters to him—and in the background the shepherd —who is a bit more curious, but also looking in the wrong direction. Even further in the background is the impressive boat continuing its journey, and there in the corner is the drowned Icarus’ poor little foot. I have never before seen such a deposition of the Icarian project. And probably that’s no coincidence—I don’t know what the painter’s philosophy was—, perhaps the meaning is that people who are contemporaries with a bold experiment are too fixed in their own habits, too afraid of change, not daring to recognize or try something new.
Looking at the painting, I don’t accept this deposition. Now that, in this country, people stand trial for still daring to believe that if anything in this life is worth doing it is the Icarian projects—no matter how much pain they may hold, no matter how much incarceration or how many convictions may be imposed on them—I want to maintain the hope and belief that at some point people, the contemporaries with these rebellions, will place in the foreground and recognize the necessity of the flight.

PS. And if I am sending this note it is because the court’s insistence on my appearance is peculiar, and above all because I do not allow myself silence. Silence only corresponds to the deceased, and in our times it is being applied during these trials by those who are completely subjugated to the commands of Power.
And if you truly want to understand whom you are trying, go on read their discourse, look at their stance. Christos Tsakalos, Gerasimos Tsakalos and Panagiotis Argirou are on the 12th day of hunger strike, and they have declared: ‘The tigers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction’ [William Blake] … ‘When one does not die for the other, then we are already dead’ [Tasos Livaditis]… On April 17th Giorgos Polidoros, Damiano Bolano, Haris Hadjimihelakis began hunger strike in support of their comrades, while the rest of the imprisoned members cell of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire will follow suit at determined dates.

April 4th – Hunger strike declaration of Spyros Dravilas (Domokos prisons), titled ‘The State and its institutions get revenge on those who don’t succumb to their system by depriving them of the acquired right of temporary leave’. Authorities deny Spyros Dravilas the temporary leave from prison he is entitled to for two and a half years now.

April 6th – Hunger strike declaration of Giorgos Karagiannidis, Alexandros Mitroussias and Kostas Sakkas — ‘as of today 6/4 we go on hunger strike demanding the lifting of our arbitrary and vindictive pretrial detentions and the immediate release of our co-defendant Stella Antoniou on health grounds’ — cosigned by S.Antoniou (who is currently protesting with prison food abstention).

April 6th – Hunger strike declaration of CCF imprisoned members Panagiotis Argirou and Gerasimos Tsakalos, who request their final transfer and stay into Koridallos prisons, in order to put an end to their repeated vindictive transfers and physical–psychological wear and tear.

April 11th – Stella Antoniou’s statement on recent developments: The prosecution authorities did not order that Stella be remanded in custody again; nevertheless, they ordered the remand of Sakkas, Mitroussias, Karagiannidis, based on fabricated charges against them concerning the older 250 CCF arson attacks. Given these facts, and in agreement with her three comrades, Stella explained she broke off her participation in the hunger strike, and despite her health problems, will abstain from prison food until their demands are met.

April 11th – Solidarity abstention from prison food by the imprisoned anarchist Rami Syrianos

April 14th – An assembly in solidarity with G.Karagiannidis, A.Mitroussias, K.Sakkas and S.Antoniou released the following news (among others): ‘Currently, the three comrades Karagiannidis, Mitroussias, Sakkas have been accused for the case of the 250 CCF arsons by the appellate–interrogation experts Mokkas and Baltas, who ordered that all three as well as the members of the R.O. CCF be remanded in custody once again. Stella Antoniou was charged in the case too, but wasn’t remanded in custody again, and so is expected to be released at the end of the 18-month period of her first pretrial incarceration (in June 2012) while her 5th request for release on health grounds has not yet been answered’.
Let us remind that Stella is held in pretrial detention for 16 months already, with the possession of a fake ID as sole evidence against her.

Mazmorras griegas: Notas sobre las huelgas de hambre y abstenciones de comida de lxs presxs en lucha

4 de abril: Declaración de huelga de hambre de Spyros Dravilas (Prisión de Domokos), titulada “El Estado y sus instituciones se vengan de aquellxs que no sucumben bajo su sistema, privándoles de su derecho a salidas temporales”. Las autoridades le han negado a Spyros Dravilas su derecho a salidas temporales, con el que contaba desde hacía dos años y medio.

6 de abril: Declaración de huelga de hambre de Giorgos Karagiannidis, Alexandros Mitroussias y Kostas Sakkas: ”A partir de hoy 6/4 nos declaramos en huelga de hambre, exigiendo el levantamiento de nuestra arbitraria y vengativa prisión preventiva, y la liberación inmediata de nuestra co-acusada Stella Antoniou, por razones de salud.” — cofirmado por Stella Antoniou, quien actualmente está protestando mediante una abstención de comida de la prisión.

6 de abril: Declaración de huelga de hambre de Panagiotis Argirou y Gerasimos Tsakalos, miembros encarcelados de la CCF, que están exigiendo su traslado definitivo a las cárceles de Koridallos, para dar fin a sus traslados repetidos y vengativos, y su tortura física y psicológica.

7 de abril: Vaggelis Kailoglou lleva a cabo una abstención de comida de la prisión, en solidaridad. Él es uno de los cuatro detenidos el 12 de febrero que se quedaron en prisión preventiva.

9 de abril: Los restantes miembros encarcelados de la CCF y el anarquista revolucionario Theofilos Mavropoulos declaran que gradualmente se unirán a la huelga de hambre de sus hermanos Panagiotis Argirou, Gerasimos y Christos Tsakalos.

11 de abril: Declaración de Stella Antoniou sobre los últimos acontecimientos: Las autoridades judiciales no pidieron que Stella permaneciese en prisión preventiva, pero sí lo hicieron con Sakkas, Mitroussias, Karagiannidi, basándose en cargos inventados contra ellos con respecto a los antiguos ataques incendiarios de la CCF. Dados los hechos, y de acuerdo con sus tres compas, Stella explicó que interrumpía su participación en la huelga de hambre, y que a pesar de sus problemas de salud, se abstendría de ingerir comida de la prisión hasta que sus demandas se cumpliesen.

11 de abril: El anarquista expropiador Rami Syrianos se declara en abstención de la comida de prisión, en solidaridad con lxs compas presxs en lucha.

14 de abril: Una asamblea en solidaridad con G.Karagiannidis, A.Mitroussias, K.Sakkas y S.Antoniou lanzó la siguiente noticia entre otras: “En la actualidad, los tres compas, Karagiannidis, Mitroussias y Sakkas han sido acusados por el caso de los 250 ataques incendiarios de la CFF por los fiscales Mokkas y Baltas, que pidieron que tanto ellos tres, como también los miembros de R.O. CCF, quedarán en prisión preventiva. Stella Antoniou fue acusada también, pero no permanecerá en prisión preventiva de nuevo, y se espera que sea liberada en junio del 2012, cuando se acaba el periodo de 18 meses desde su primera prisión preventiva, mientras que su quinta petición para la liberación por motivos de salud aún no ha sido respondida.” Recordemos que Stella ha estado en prisión preventiva durante 16 meses ya, con la única prueba en su contra de poseer un carné de identidad falso.

14 de abril: Noticias del estado de los tres miembros presos de CCF, después de una semana en huelga de hambre: Gerasimos ha perdido 6 kilos, Panagiotis 5 kilos, y Christos 7 kilos. Cada día tienen exámenes médicos, los niveles de azúcar y la presión arterial son revisados.

15 de abril: Tres miembros presos más de CCF, Haris Hadjimihelakis, Damiano Bolano, y Giorgos Polidoros, comenzarán una huelga de hambre desde el 17 de abril. (Seguirán actualizaciones)

Greece- C.C.F HUNGERSTRIKE UPDATE

As part of the direct communication concerning the hunger strike begun on 8/4 by the three C.C.F anarchist urban guerillas, Gerasimos Tsakalos, Panagiotis Argirou and Christos Tsakalos for the cessation of punitive transfers and the transfer of the first two from Domokos prison to Koridallos, we inform that Gerasimos has lost six kilos, Panagiotis five kilos and Christos seven kilos. Every day they have medical examinations, sugar levels and blood pressure are checked.

From tomorrow the comrades will be commencing their second week of hunger strike.

‘The tigers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction’

Each of us knows that to get his life in his hands, he must refuse the dialogue and the illusions of democracy and come into conflict with the Power, having his knife between his teeth.

From the first moment of our imprisonment, we chose not to surrender to the dictatorship of the penitentiary system. From the first moment, the State and the antiterrorist unit’s Tagmatasfalites (security battalions) sent specific commands to the prison service, in order to give special treatment both to us and the other CCF comrades.

We are already a half years in prisons. From the early days of our arrest I, Gerasimos Tsakalos, was moved to Malandrino prisons and I refused to stay in the special protection ward, I got a disciplinary transfer from Corinth prisons and later, with the comrade Panagiotis Argirou, we came to verbal and physical clash with prison guards when we refused to accept the humiliating strip search they wanted to enforce on us.

Also, so far we have been moved over twenty times due to emergency transfers — with special bulletproof trucks, ΕΚΑΜ (special suppressive antiterrorist units), special units for prison transfers, antiterrorism task forces — from and to Koridallos prisons, in Athens, for the ongoing new prosecutions that ‘arise’ from the terror-interrogators (Mokkas, Baltas) concerning the anarchist guerrilla action of CCF.

Currently we are once again in Koridallos prisons due to the prosecutions of the 250 incendiary and explosive attacks by the Conspiracy, prosecutions which now skillfully emerged. Especially this new persecution, which takes place shortly before the national elections — as in the case of Halandri — coupled with politicians’ statements about ‘cracking down the hoodies’, is part of a wider anti-anarchist campaign initiated back in 2009; more so since, other than us, people who have NO relation whatsoever with CCF are summoned for these interrogations, including, among others, the anarchist Stella Antoniou whose applications for release on bail were denied one after the other by the judicial authorities, despite her serious health problem —facts on which we reserve the right to take a position in the near future.

Well then, patience has its limits and wrath remains infinite, so we declare that from Sunday, April 8th, we start hunger strike requesting our final transfer and placement in Koridallos prisons, to put an end to our repeated vindictive transfers and our physical and psychological wear and tear.

For us, the hunger strike is not a passive resistance or a peaceful protest, in order to elicit the sensitivity of coward bureaucrats of the Power, or the humanism of progressive apologists of the system.

It’s a way to re-define our body ourselves, outside prison guards’ authority. Perhaps this is the sweetest contradiction for an anarchist urban guerrilla, because in our fight for freedom prison is often the price we pay, and the danger of death always lurks in the struggle for life.

But what never changes is that we remain forever anarchists of praxis. An anarchist of action remains an anarchist even without a pen and a gun, if he/she holds the weapon that contains everything else. ‘A determined conscience that says, I fight until the end.’

Cada unx de nosotrxs sabe que, para tomar las riendas de su vida, debe rechazar el diálogo y las ilusiones de la democracia, y enfrentarse al Poder con un cuchillo entre los dientes.

Desde el primer momento de nuestro encarcelamiento, hemos optado por no entregarnos a la dictadura del sistema penitenciario. El Estado y los batallones de los servicios antiterroristas (Tagmatasfalites) han mandado a los servicios de las prisiones, desde el principio, órdenes específicas de tratamiento especial, tanto para nosotros, como también para lxs otrxs compas de la CCF.

Llevamos ya un año y medio en la cárcel. Desde los primeros días de nuestra detención, yo Gerasimos Tsakalos fui trasladado a las prisiones de Malandrino y me negué a quedarme en el ala especial de protección, fui castigado con un traslado disciplinario desde las prisiones de Korinthos y luego, junto con el compa Panagiotis Argirou, nos enfrentamos verbal y físicamente a los carceleros de las prisiones de Domokos, cuando nos negamos a aceptar el humillante cacheo con desnudo integral que nos querían imponer.

Además, nos han trasladado, hasta ahora, más de 20 veces en traslados de emergencia — con lecheras blindadas especiales, EKAM (unidades antiterroristas especiales), unidades especiales de traslado penitenciario, fuerzas de los servicios antiterroristas — desde y hacia Koridallos, debido a las repetidas y nuevas persecuciones que “llevan a cabo” los interrogadores del terror (Mokkas, Baltas), en relación con la acción guerrillera anarquista de la CCF.

Actualmente volvemos a estar en las cárceles de Koridallos, debido a las persecuciones que han sacado habilmente sobre los 250 ataques explosivos e incendiarios de la Conspiración. Estas nuevas persecuciones en particular, que se están llevando a cabo poco antes de las elecciones, así como el “caso Chalandri”, y en combinación con las declaraciones políticas del “combate contra lxs encapuchadxs”, forman parte de una campaña antianarquista más amplia que comenzó en 2009. Aun más, desde que, a parte de nostroxs, personas que NO tienen ningún tipo de relación con la CCF han sido citadxs para estos interrogatorios, incluida, entre ellxs, la anarquista Stella Antoniou, cuyas solicitudes de liberación bajo fianza han sido rechazadas una y otra vez por parte de las autoridades judiciales, a pesar de sus serios problemas de salud -hechos sobre los que nos reservamos el derecho a posicionarnos en un futuro cercano.

Pues, dado que la paciencia tiene sus límites y la ira es infinita, declaramos que, a partir del domingo 8 de abril, comenzamos una huelga de hambre, exigiendo nuestro traslado definitivo a las cárceles de Koridallos, para que paren los continuos traslados vengativos y la tortura psicológica y física sobre nosotros.

Para nosotros, la huelga de hambre no es una resistencia pasiva ni una protesta pacífica para obtener la compasión de los cobardes burócratas del Poder, o el humanismo de los defensores progresistas del sistema.

Es una forma de redefinir nuestros propios cuerpos, lejos de la autoridad de los carceleros. Quizá, esta sea la contradicción más dulce de una guerrilla urbana anarquista, porque en nuestra lucha por la libertad, la prisión suele ser el precio que pagamos, y el peligro de muerte siempre ronda en la lucha por la vida.

Pero lo que jamás cambia es lo que siempre seguiremos siendo, anarquistas de praxis. Un(a) anarquista de acción sigue siendo anarquista, incluso sin boli y arma, si sostiene el arma que contiene todo lo demás: una conciencia decidida que dice: “Lucharé hasta el final”.
