The promise of suspending the eviction of Es.Col.A was shown to be nothing but a fraud. Politically forced to engage in conversation with the occupants of the former school of Alto da Fontinha, the Oporto City Coucil (CMP) merely wanted to announce that the eviction was still a reality, however it would be delayed.
In a meeting with two Es.Col.A members, the CMP demanded the collectivity to sign its own death sentence, by accepting a rental agreement that would terminate in June 2012. The short-term maintenance of Es.Col.A within the old school building implied the signature of such contract.

Going back to the beginning: on the 10th of April 2011, a group of people occupied the building of the old primary school of Alto da Fontinha, vacant and neglected for more than 5 years by the same City Council that was obliged to preserve it. One month later, after intensive building reparation by the occupants and with several activities already taking place, the police (mandated by the CMP) violently evicted the building's occupants and walled up the place.

Following a long period of negotiations with the City Council, Es.Col.A was allowed to go back to Escola da Fontinha, where it has been until the present with an evident absence of interest by the CMP.

Such farce is, for us, unacceptable, just as the eviction itself, either now, in June, or in any other time. We do not recognize legitimacy to CMP, who has successively failed to live up to the agreements, failed to follow it's own decisions and who's only known means of negotiation is through intimidation. Accepting the eviction means giving up of the dream that made us depart into this adventure. The dream of transforming our lives with our own hands, learning and teaching with those that interact with us in the streets of Fontinha. Because Es.Col.A is much more than a simple school, it is in fact a laboratory of a transformed world, we will rise up!

We need the solidarity of all people who identifies with the project. We hope that, everywhere, occupation and the free use of the spaces will be the global answer to this system that chooses property, even abandoned, rather than the collective joy.

La promesa de suspender el desalojo de Es.Col.A ha demostrado no ser más que un fraude. Forzadxs políticamente a participar en la conversación con lxs okupas de la antigua escuela de Alto da Fontinha, el ayuntamiento de O Porto sólo quería anunciar que el desalojo continuaba siendo una realidad, aunque podría retrasarse.

En una reunión con dos miembros de Es.Col.A, el ayuntamiento exigió a la colectividad que firmasen su propia sentencia de muerte, aceptando un acuerdo de alquiler que terminaría en Junio de 2012. El mantenimiento a corto plazo de Es.Col.A dentro del edificio de la vieja escuela implicaba la firma de ese contrato.

Volviendo al principio: el 10 de Abril de 2011, un grupo de personas okuparon el edificio de la vieja escuela primaria de Alto da Fontinha, vacío y descuidado durante más de 5 años por el ayuntamiento de la misma ciudad que fue obligado a conservarlo. Un mes más tarde, tras la reparación intensiva del edificio por lxs okupas y con numerosas actividades ya desarrollándose en el interior, la policía (enviada por el ayuntamiento) desalojó violentamente a lxs okupas de la casa y tapió las entradas.

Después de un largo periodo de negociaciones con el ayuntamiento de la ciudad, el colectivo de Es.Col.A obtuvo permiso para volver a la escuela de Alto da Fontinha, donde ha estado hasta el presente con una evidente falta de interés por parte del CMP (ayuntamiento). Esta farsa es, para nosotrxs, inaceptable, así como el desalojo, tenga lugar ahora, en Junio o en cualquier otro momento.

No reconocemos la legitimidad del CMP, quien ha fallado constantemente en su cumplimiento de los acuerdos y en el desarrollo de sus propios compromisos y decisiones, y quien sólo entiende la negociación a través de la intimidación. Aceptar el desalojo significa rendirse en la tarea de cumplir el sueño que nos hace parte de esta aventura. El sueño de transformar nuestras vidas con nuestras propias manos, aprendiendo y enseñando con aquellxs que interactúan con nosotrxs en las calles de Fontinha. Porque Es.Col.A es mucho más que una simple escuela, es, de hecho, un laboratorio para un mundo transformado, ¡nos alzaremos!.

Necesitamos la solidaridad de todas las personas que se identifican con el proyecto. Tenemos la esperanza de que, en todas partes, la okupación y el libre uso de los espacios serán la respuesta global a este sistema que decide que la propiedad privada, incluso abandonada, prepondera sobre el placer colectivo.
