Inmate steals transport van and escapes from jail — Letcher County, CA

Crews have been searching for 32-year-old Stevie Wynn since about 3 p.m. Wednesday. Police said he was on his way back to the Letcher County jail after a court date in Perry County when he assaulted the driver, working for the Perry County Sheriff’s Department and took off in the state van.

“He pushed the officer out into the highway while it was moving and almost caused the officer to get hit by a tractor trailer,” said Chief Deputy Tony Eversole of the Perry County Police Department.

Wynn was last seen in the Red Fox area of Knott County along Highway 15 around 3 p.m. driving the state vehicle.

Police said that they do not believe he is armed, but could be dangerous.

“Still use caution due to the subject’s previous arrests, some include assault second, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, several drug charges and he is a felony offender,” said Eugene Slone, Deputy Sheriff of the Letcher County Sheriff’s Office.

“It is a felony offense in Kentucky to harbor a fugitive, and he definitely is a fugitive just contact local law enforcement and let us know where he’s at, we’ll go pick him up,” said Eversole.

The transporting officer was taken to Appalachian Regional Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be released.
