Several windows of church smashed out — Knox County, TN

“You can see some of the glass that remains when they were broken out,” said Pastor Alan Jones.

Two months ago, all but seven windows shattered, at Concord Original Church of God.

“It made us think it was an attack on us a people of faith,” said Jones.

His church wasn’t the only target, a few miles down the road, Concord A.M.E Zion hit, too.

“We were vandalized on four different occasions,” said Pastor Stephen Steele.

All within a month’s span. Since then Patrols are up, so are leads, but not enough evidence for an arrest.

“We’re happy with the way the investigation is going right now and we expect it to come out to a good outcome sometime in the future,” said Sheriff Jones.

“We do feel an arrest needs to be made but at the same time my heart goes out to that person,” said Pastor Jones.

Members of the congregation reminisced about the church’s history, remembering what happened more than 50 years ago.

” The first one burned down back in the 60’s from people who didn’t want us here,” said member Stephen Jeter.

The members don’t believe this was a racial issue, but it brought back some painful memories.

“As a Christian it’s our responsibility to to always love someone even though they do things to hurt us,” said Jeter.

Jeter said this latest gesture of goodwill and with a foundation built on faith, no one will ever be able to knock them down.
