Man Smashes Police Cruiser, Attempts to Run Over Police-Winston-Salem,NC
An officer fired a shot toward a suspect’s vehicle Friday after he rammed an unmarked police car and nearly ran over several officers, according to a Winston-Salem Police Department news release.
Officer J.B. Gerald fired one round toward the vehicle of James Lavon Simon, 34, of Winston-Salem, police said.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. at the Fairway One Stop on Northwest Boulevard.
Police said Simon fled the scene of a drug-related arrest but not before hitting an unmarked police car with his vehicle and almost running over several officers.
The shot hit the vehicle and not Simon, police said. No one was injured, police said.
Officers pursued Simon by vehicle and eventually by foot when he fled from the vehicle, police said. Simon was arrested after a brief foot pursuit, police said.
Simon faces three counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, and one count each of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for the purposes of delivering cocaine, and resisting arrest.
