Four arrested after alleged attack on off-duty cop — Memphis, TN
Four people were arrested after an attack on an off-duty Memphis police officer outside a Beale Street nightclub.
Police reported that shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, officer Anthony Campbell was leaving Beale Street with friends when he noticed a fight involving at least four people outside Club Crave at 380 Beale.
Witnesses told police that after Campbell briefly stopped to look at the altercation, those involved began yelling profanities at him, at which point a friend of Campbell’s told them: “You’re talking to a police officer.”
The suspects then yelled “Get that police (expletive)” and chased down Campbell as he was walking away from the scene, knocking him to the ground and repeatedly punching and kicking him.
Campbell suffered a swollen eye and a cut on his nose in the incident, but refused medical treatment, according to a police affidavit.
He repeatedly told the suspects that he “didn’t want any trouble” before being attacked, witnesses told police.
De Angelo Watkins, 28; Justin Boone, 24; Roderick Jenkins, 24; and Sirita Tolbert, 28, were each charged with assault to cause bodily harm.
Tolbert was also charged with forgery, as officers reported finding a counterfeit $100 bill in her purse.
She posted $3,000 bond and was released from Shelby County Jail later that day.
Watkins, Boone and Jenkins each posted $100 bond, and were also released Saturday
