Two arrested for allegedly breaking cop’s leg in brawl — Livermore, CA

Two teen males were arrested on suspicion of attacking an officer and breaking his leg as police tried to break up a street brawl early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Officers responded around 1:25 a.m. to several reports of broken bottles and screaming during a fight, as about 100 people gathered outside in the 900 block of Lambaren Avenue near Rincon Avenue, officer Steven Goard said.

An officer approached a person who appeared to be intoxicated when a group of people confronted him, including a 17-year-old male who acted belligerently, police said.

The officer tried to handcuff the teen, who punched the officer multiple times in the face and torso while a 19-year-old man — identified by police as Adrian Manzano — jumped on the officer’s back and tried to choke him, Goard said.

They fell to the ground where the pair continued to attack the officer until several officers came to his aid, police said.

The officer, whose name was not released, was taken to ValleyCare Medical Center where he was treated for a broken leg and released, authorities said.

Manzano and the teen male, not being named because he is a minor, were arrested on suspicion of battery on an officer with injury, resisting an officer with force, and willful resistance to an officer causing serious bodily injury.
