Attempt to murder charges against 67 activists including 14 women


MANSA: Continuing with its onslaught, the Bathinda range police not only arrested 210 farm activists on Wednesday but booked another 67 villagers including 14 women under attempt to murder charges for “attacking” police personnel on Tuesday evening. 27 have been booked by name and 40 others were added to the attempt to murder case.

However, undeterred by the brutal cane blows which rained on protesting farm activists and landowners on Tuesday, dozens of Gobindpura residents again staged a protest in the village and burnt Punjab governmentas effigy. The villagers, who have not accepted compensation for the land acquisition, condemned asbrutala? police action and put up black flags atop houses to mark their protest.

Five family members of a farm leader and landowner, Gurlal Singh, have been booked. They included his wife, daughter, son and niece.

Farm organization BKU (Ugrahan) secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokri said, “Badal has crossed all limits of repression, and he will have to pay for it. Now, big jathas (groups) of farm activists will march towards Gobindpura everyday from Thursday and they will not sit back till we reclaim the land.”
