Social housing triggers riots in several provinces

Last night, young children in Oran neighborhood of El Hamri cut the road and threw stones at passersby to protest against the delay in the distribution of social housing.

* According to official sources, the events of El Hamri would be the work of a volunteer imam of a prayer hall in the same neighborhood. The latter would have indoctrinated and incited youth, most of whom were teenagers, to protest and demonstrate in the streets.

According to the wali of Oran, El Hamri events were triggered to pressure the local authorities.

Riot police were deployed in the region but without confrontation with the rioters who were dispersed around noon. The majority of the rioters were minors who had nothing to do with social housing.

Security services have opened an investigation to determine the reasons for these disorders.
