Prisoners protest against mismanagement in jail

KARACHI: The prisoners of the Central Jail on Friday staged a protest demonstration against the mismanagement at their prison. They chanted slogans against the jail administration and demanded B class facilities. The protesters said that their others inmates, who have been imprisoned in security wards and other jails, would be transferred to their cell. When contacted, IG Jail Ghulam Qadir Thebu said the issues raised by prisoners did not fall within his jurisdiction, adding the decision in this regard could be made by only higher authorities i.e. jail minister and courts. He said the issue would be raised at the next meeting to be convened on Saturday (today). He said that those prisoners who had life threats even in jail were transferred to special security cell, also known as ‘Band Ward’.
