Second day of nationwide general strike

17.10 GMT+2 PAME have largely left Syntagma square, protected by cops all the way; police squads and motorcycle cops attack people indiscriminately in Panepistimiou and Trikoupi streets.

Cops have now taken over the guarding of the parliament. MPs’ votes for the new Finance multi-bill will be submitted anytime soon.

17.00 GMT+2 Finally, PAME/KNE re-groups and prepares to leave from Amalias Street and Syntagma. Good riddance!

16.50 GMT+2 At least one new police unit in Filellinon Street at the back of protesters. Police chased people away from there. Strikers from Ermou, Mitropoleos, Filellinon and Stadiou streets were repeatedly trying to approach Syntagma Square and the parliament bordello. Demonstrators were once more pulled back by the PAME security forces!

Extensive use of tear gas and shock grenades by riot police; suffocating atmosphere in the area; people in numerous spots respond with stones and whatever they got.

Meanwhile, many injured protesters are being transferred to hospitals. False rumours regarding one clinically dead (!) demonstrator have been circulating across Athens spreading terror, but have officially been refuted.

16.30 GMT+2 Earlier in Rethymnon, on Crete Island, members of KNE threatened protesters with sticks, opposite the city hall.

In Mytilini, on Lesvos Island, the assembly of the occupied Periphery decided to end the occupation with an evening demo, in about one hour when strikers will march in the city streets.

16.20 GMT+2 Thousands of members of PAME are in front of the parliament. Police pulled back from the lower parts of Syntagma; smaller groups of anti-authoritarians, base unions and ultra left try to enter the square from the lower side; most union demonstrators still blocked in the side streets.

The ministry of Finance in Mitropoleos Street is under occupation from strikers.

16.10 GMT+2 Extensive use of tear gas now in Syntagma. Stalinists attacked demonstrators who tried to take the square.

15.45 GMT+2 There are still demonstrators in Amalias Street, in front of the parliament, as well as in Fillelinon and Mitropoleos streets. The square is evacuated and encircled by cops, though. The Stalinists are still blocking access.

It must be clear that PAME and KNE are not communists. They are Stalinist snitches and ruffians who work for the regime. Today, they have handed more demonstrators to the police —as they have done in numerous cases in the past, i.e. back in 1998.

15.30 GMT+2 Full-on police attack to clear Syntagma. Large crowd pushed down Ermou Street.

A coordinated police raid along Pesmazoglou and Stadiou streets.

15.25 GMT+2 Clashes between anarchists and Stalinists mainly in Filellinon and Voukourestiou streets.

Generalized violence across much of Syntagma. More Molotovs and stones thrown at the Stalinist crowd. Earlier police attempted to enter the square from Stadiou and to trap anarchists.

15.20 GMT+2 Severe injured protesters (at least 20) are constantly being transferred to the medical centre of Syntagma Square. PAME/ΚΝΕ members seem to have direct contact with police officers and handed at least one (most probably anarchist) protester to the police. They also attacked insurrectionist demonstrators. Now protesters counterattack the cops and the scumbags of PAME/ΚΝΕ.

THERE’S AN URGENT NEED OF MORE PEOPLE IN SYNTAGMA!

15.00 GMT+2 Clashes are escalating in Syntagma; colours, stones and Molotov cocktails thrown into Stalinist crowd.

14.50 GMT+2 Members of the movement ‘Den Plirono’ (I won’t pay!) first took a stance against PAME union’s ‘safeguard’ near the Hotel Grande Bretagne. Then blocks of anti-authoritarians arrived, as well as the Anarchists’ Assembly for Social Self-determination.

Clashes erupted as protesters tried to reach the parliament. A huge anarchist block attacked Stalinist lines. They are face to face by the Great Britain Hotel in Syntagma. Police fired tear gas. The clashes are severe; flares were shot straight into the crowd. Generalized clashes between hundreds of anarchists and Stalinists in Syntagma; stones, bottles and flares are thrown. Protesters tried to break through PAME lines to reach the parliament.

In Syntagma and along Panepistimiou Street members of PAME swear at rioters and have even beaten several up.

14.20 GMT+2 In Athens, six to seven detentions were reported in Klathmonos Square, near Dragatsaniou Street —at least three detainees are minors. At least one witness who called the free radio 98 FM but also tried to contact the Legal Aid team as well as the Athens police headquarters, testified that the cops had one or more bottles on them which they attempted to charged on the detainees.

At least seven more detentions by motorcycle cops were made in Athinas Street (near Monastiraki metro stop). Many passers-by were seen applauding the bastards cops there!

13.20 GMT+2 In Athens, once again the Stalinists of PAME union have lined up before the police squads and in front of the plexiglass-iron wall next to the side of the parliament, not allowing people to get anywhere close to them. Members of PAME, several with sticks and helmets, have even requested journalistic identities from protesters who express a growing discontent.

In Heraklion, on Crete Island, strikers made an intervention–blockage of the fast food chain store Goody’s.

In Mytilini, on Lesvos Island, about 400 people participated in the demo. Upcoming actions will be decided during a general assembly in the occupied building of the Periphery.

13.10 GMT+2 In Thessaloniki, groups of demonstrators along with the Union of Waiters, Cooks and all Workers in the Food Industry blocked restaurants and cafés in Proxenou Koromila Street which were open despite the general strike. They moved to Iktinou Street for the same reason.

13.00 GMT+2 Patras had a quite disappointing demonstration of around 1,000 strong.

12.30 GMT+2 Workers in municipalities (POE-OTA) are applauded by other demonstrators as they reach Filellinon Street with direction towards Syntagma.

It has been reported that members of KNE, the youth wing of the ‘Communist’ Party of Greece (KKE), have attacked other demonstrators in the northwestern city of Ioannina.

12.20 GMT+2 A group of people who hold Greek flags moved from Ermou Street to Syntagma Square, unfolding their national rags at the Unknown Soldier Monument.

12.00 GMT+2 A police helicopter is flying above Exarchia. Small groups of plainclothes cops are spread all over the streets of downtown Athens. As was reported yesterday by various protesters, it is hard to differentiate these thugs from other demonstrators and is easy to get trapped, beaten and even detained.

11.40 GMT+2 The Stalinists of PAME are already in Syntagma. Comrades report that they line up holding sticks, in order to secure the reactionary character of their pathetic rally while they block other demonstrators to move on the sidewalk of the Unknown Soldier Monument in front of the parliament. At the moment there is no police presence (at least immediately visible). The Stalinists are about to play once more the role of the cops, in order to suppress any possible actions of insurgency.

11.20 GMT+2 In Athens the crowd is already thick in Propylaea and in Syntagma Square. Two central metro stops (Syntagma and Evangelismos) are once again closed. There’s still the stink of tear gas from the day before. (In case of arrest, people should speak out loud their names to fellow protesters.)

10.30 GMT+2 Pre-gatherings for the second day of the nationwide general strike have already begun. Yesterday the strike mobilizations saw hundreds of thousands on the streets of numerous Greek cities (some estimates were as large as half a million in Athens alone). Yesterday, all 154 members of the ruling party of PASOK approved the new multi-bill of austerity measures introduced by the Finance minister Evangelos Venizelos.

Today, MPs will take a final vote in favour or against this bill which aims at the further deterioration of the lives of millions. The armed pigs of the democratic dictatorship, the collaborationist unionists, the corporate media and all types of fascists have been trying to suppress by any means the overflow of rage and an upcoming social revolt. It remains to be seen if people will manage to overcome fear and corporate propaganda, raising barricades of resistance and taking down the apparatus of the State and the Capital.

Segundo día de la huelga general

16.20 GMT+2 Miles de miembros de PAME están en frente del parlamento. La policía se ha retirado de la parte baja de Syntagma y pequeños grupos de antiautoritarios, algunos sindicatos de base y bloques de extrema izquierda intentan entrar de nuevo en la plaza por la parte inferior. La mayoría de los manifestantes de los sindicales siguen bloqueados en las calles laterales.

El ministerio de Finanzas en la calle Mitropoleos está ocupado por los huelguistas.

16.10 GMT+2 Uso extensivo de gases lacrimógenos en este momento en Syntagma. Los estalinistas atacaron a los manifestantes que intentaron tomar la plaza.

15.45 GMT+2 Todavía hay presencia de manifestantes en la calle Amalias, frente al Parlamento, así como en las calles Fillelinon y Mitropoleos pero la plaza ha sido evacuada y rodeada por la policía. Los estalinistas siguen bloqueando el acceso.

Debe quedar claro que los miembros de PAME y KNE no son comunistas. Ellos son soplones estalinistas y colaboradores que trabajar para el régimen. Hoy en día, las fuerzas reaccionarias de los estalinistas han entregado más manifestantes a la policía, como lo han hecho también en numerosos casos en el pasado (como en el año 1998). En Grecia los “policías rojos” de la juventud estalinista (KNE) se llaman también KNAT, en un juego de palabras que hace alusión a los policías antidisturbios de MAT.

15.30 GMT+2 Operación masiva de los matones de la policía; la gente se empuja a la parte baja de la plaza de Syntagma, hacia la calle Ermou. Al mismo tiempo una coordinada redada policial toma lugar en las calles Pesmazoglou y Stadiou.

15.20 GMT+2 Se reporta que varios manifestantes gravemente heridos (al menos 20) se trasladan constantemente al centro médico de la plaza de Syntagma. Los miembros de PAME/KNE parece que están en contacto directo con los agentes de la policía y que han entregado varios manifestantes a la policía. Los estalinistas, organizados con palos y cascos, atacaron de nuevo contra los insurrectos. Los últimos están resistiendo y contra-atacando a los policías y los bastardos de PAME/KNE pero sus fuerzas no son suficientes para combatir el coordenado ataque de los órganos del Poder y los estalinistas.

Los compañeros hacen un llamado urgente para que se junten mas gente a las líneas antiautoritarias!

15.00 GMT+2 Duros enfrentamientos en Syntagma con arrojos de bombas molotov, bombas de tinta y piedras contra la multitud estalinista.

14.50 GMT+2 Los miembros del movimiento “No Pago” tomaron una postura contra los estalinistas de PAME cerca del hotel Grande Bretagne. A continuación, el bloque de la Asamblea Anarquista por la Autodeterminación Social y otros bloques de anarquistas/antiautoritarios se juntaron al bloque del movimiento “No Pago”.

Los enfrentamientos irrumpieron cuando los manifestantes intentaron acercar el parlamento. Un grupo de anarquistas ataco las enormes líneas estalinistas intentando a romper las con el fin de llegar frente al parlamento y echar fuera de la manifestación esta informal policía roja del reaccionario sindicato de PAME. Cientos de anarquistas y estalinistas se confrontaron en peleas cuerpo a cuerpo y también con arrojos de piedras, botellas y artefactos piroteqnicicos.

En Syntagma y a lo largo de la calle Panepistimiou los miembros de PAME estaban gritando palabrotas contra los manifestantes que no hacían parte de su bloque, a vezes también peleando los.

14.20 GMT+2 En Atenas, se registraron seis o siete detenciones en la plaza Klathmonos, cerca de la calle Dragatsaniou (por lo menos tres de los detenidos son menores de edad) como reporto al vivo una manifestante a la radio libre 98FM . La misma persona intento contactar también al equipo de asistencia jurídica y a la jefatura de la policía para denunciar el hecho que los policias intentaron cargar los detenidos con botellas que tenian dentro de sus patrullas.

Al menos siete más personas fueron detenidas por la policía motorizada en la calle Athinas (cerca de la parada de metro de Monastiraki). Muchos transeúntes se vieron aplaudir a los bastardos policías!

13.20 GMT+2 En Atenas, una vez más, los estalinistas del sindicato de PAME se han alineado frente a los escuadrones de la policía y frente a la valla de plexiglás y hierro, junto al lado del parlamento, prohibiendo a los manifestantes de acercarse. Miembros de PAME, varios con palos y cascos han solicitado también identidades periodísticas de los manifestantes que expresan un descontento cada vez mayor.

En Heraklion, en Creta, los huelguistas bloquearon el funcionamiento de la cadena de restaurantes de comida rápida Goodys.

En Mitileni, en la isla de Lesbos, cerca de 400 personas participaron en la manifestación de hoy. Las próximas acciones se decidirán en una asamblea general que se realizara en el edificio ocupado de la Periferia.

13.10 GMT+2 En Salónica, grupos de manifestantes, junto con la Unión de Camareros, Cocineros y todos los Trabajadores en el sector de la Industria de Alimentos bloquearon los restaurantes y las cafeterías en la calle Proxenou Koromila que estaban abiertas a pesar de la huelga general. Después de esta intervención los manifestantes se trasladaron a la calle Iktinou con el mismo objetivo.

13.00 GMT+2 En Patras la demostración fue bastante decepcionante, contando solamente con la participación de 1.000 personas.

12.30 GMT+2 Los trabajadores municipales (del sindicato de POE-OTA) han sido aplaudidos por otros manifestantes al llegar a la calle Filellinon, con dirección a Syntagma.

Se reporto que los miembros de KNE, la juventud del Partido “Comunista”de Grecia (KKE), han atacado a otros manifestantes en la ciudad noroccidental de Ioannina.

12.20 GMT+2 Un grupo de personas con banderas griegas se movieron desde la calle Ermou hasta el Monumento al Soldado Desconocido, para desdoblar sus harapos nacionales.

12.00 GMT+2 Un helicóptero de la policía está volando por encima de Exarchia. Pequeños grupos de policías de paisano están dispersados por todas las calles del centro de Atenas. Como se informó ayer por varios manifestantes, es difícil diferenciar a estos matones de otros manifestantes, y es fácil quedar atrapado, golpeado y aún detenido.

11.40 GMT+2 Los estalinistas de PAME ya están en Syntagma. Compañeros informan que están alineados con palos en las manos para asegurar el carácter reaccionario de su manifestación patética, mientras estan bloquando otros manifestantes que intentan moverse en la acera frente al Monumento al Soldado Desconocido. Por el momento no hay presencia policial (al menos inmediatamente visible). Los estalinistas están a punto de jugar una vez más el papel de la policía, con el fin de suprimir cualquier acción de insurgencia.

11.20 GMT+2 En Atenas, muchísima gente está concentrada en los Propileos y en la plaza de Syntagma. Las estaciones centrales de metro (en Syntagma y Evangelismos) permanecerán cerradas una vez más. El hedor de las toneladas de gases lacrimógenos es todavía muy fuerte en las calles del centro. (En caso de detención, los detenidos deben hablar en voz alta sus nombres, para que sepan quienes son los otros manifestantes).

10.30 GMT +2 La gente se reúne en los previstos puntos de concentración antes del comienzo de las marchas en el marco del segundo día de la huelga general en todo el país. En el 19 de octubre cientos de miles tomaron las calles de numerosas ciudades griegas (según algunas estimaciones mas que medio millón, sólo en Atenas). Ayer, los 154 miembros parlamentares del partido gobernante del PASOK aprobaron la nueva ley de medidas de austeridad, propuesta por el ministro de Finanzas, Evangelos Venizelos.

Hoy en día, los diputados votarán a favor o en contra de este proyecto de ley que apunta a un mayor deterioro de la vida de millones. Los asesinos armados de la dictadura democrática, los sindicalistas vendidos, los medios corporativos y todo tipo de fascistas han tratado de suprimir, por cualquier medio, el desbordamiento de la rabia popular y la revuelta social. Queda por ver si la gente va superar el miedo y la propaganda corporativa, levantando barricadas de resistencia y destrozando los aparatos del Estado y el Capital.

Seconda giornata di sciopero generale nazionale

12,30 GMT+2 I lavoratori comunali (POE-OTA) vengono applauditi dagli altri manifestanti quando raggiungono Filellinon Street mentre si dirigono a Syntagma.

È stato riportato che i membri del KNE, l’ala giovanile del partito comunista greco (KKE), hanno attaccato altri manifestanti nella città nord-occidentale di Ioannina.

12,20 GMT+2 Un gruppo di persone che portano le bandiere greche si sono spostate da via Ermou a piazza Syntagma, dispiegando i loro stracci nazionalisti sul monumento del Milite Ignoto.

12,00 GMT+2 Un’elicottero della polizia stà volando sopra Exarchia. Piccoli gruppi di poliziotti in borghese sono sparsi in tutte le strade del centro di Atene. Come è stato riferito ieri da diversi manifestanti , è difficile differenziare questi delinquenti da altri manifestanti ed è facile rimanere intrappolati, picchiati e addirittura arrestati.

11,40 GMT+2 Gli stalinisti del PAME sono già in Syntagma. I compagni ci segnalano che sono allineati e con dei bastoni al fine di garantire il carattere reazionario del loro patetico raduno, mentre bloccano gli altri manifestanti dall’andare sul marciapiede del monumento al Milite Ignoto di fronte al parlamento. Al momento non vi è presenza della polizia (almeno immediatamente visibile). Gli stalinisti stanno per giocare ancora una volta il ruolo dei poliziotti, al fine di sopprimere ogni possibile azione di guerriglia.

11,20 GMT+2 Ad Atene la folla è già numerosa a Propilea e in piazza Syntagma. Due fermate centrali della metropolitana (Syntagma e Evangelismos) sono ancora una volta chiuse. Permane l’ odore dei lacrimogeni sparati il giorno prima. (In caso di arresto, la gente dovrebbe gridare ad alta voce i loro nomi ai compagni manifestanti.)

10,30 GMT+2 I pre-raduni per la seconda giornata di sciopero generale sono già iniziati. Ieri le mobilitazioni per lo sciopero hanno visto centinaia di migliaia di persone per le strade di numerose città greche (alcune stime parlavano di mezzo milione solo ad Atene). Ieri, tutti i 154 membri del partito di governo del PASOK hanno approvato il nuovo multi-pacchetto di misure d’austerità introdotte dal ministro delle Finanze Evangelos Venizelos.

Oggi, i parlamentari procederanno con il voto finale a favore o contro questa proposta di legge che mira a un’ulteriore deterioramento della vita di milioni di persone. I maiali armati della dittatura democratica, i sindacalisti collaborazionisti, i mass-media e tutti i vari fascisti hanno cercato di reprimere con ogni mezzo la grande rabbia e l’imminente rivolta sociale . Resta da vedere se la gente riuscirà a superare la paura e la propaganda mediatica, innalzando barricate di resistenza e di distruzione dell’apparato dello Stato e del Capitale.
