Demonstration against the police-congress, attacks on cops and stores / houseproject raided




Heavy riots broke out in Berlin. They could come up again, because one year ago in february Liebigstraße 14 in Friedrichshain got evicted.

More than 70 arrests and nearly 50 injured cops are the results of the riots of the left-extremist scene on the weekend in Berlin. The riots started on saturday afternoon in Neukölln during a demonstration against police violence and continued in front of the evicted Liebigstraße 14 in Friedrichshain.
Police reported that several rioters stormed the backyard of the Liebigstraße 14, smashed windows and sprayed painted the staircase, shortly after midnight.

Policemen that arrived at the spot got attacked with stones, construction-trash, fire-extinguishers and laser-pointers. Further on cars and trashbins were set on fire. A big group of rioters escaped into Rigaerstraße.

When the cops tried to get into the building with an ladder they got attacked with fire-extinguishers and an iron bar, to push away the ladder. They rioters threw old glass and paint and used pepperspray, reported the police.
On cop got attacked with an iron bar, when he put up his visor, that was full with extinguishing-foam. Just because of is fast reaction he didnt got injured. By the fact of that offense an investigation in relation of attempted manslaughter has started.
Police reported that 38 arrests were done, 25 of them because of disturbing the peace of a land and 3 because of the attempt of heavy arson. Around 160 cops were involved in the operation.
Some hours earlier 35 demonstrators got already arrested after windows got smashed and cops got attacked near by a demonstration.
The reason for the demonstration was the so called „International Urban Operations Conference“ that takes places the coming week at a hotel in Berlin. Experts of the military will talk about strategies of urban war – protesters say its a „war-conference“. As well the „European police congress“, that will take place from the 14th to the 15th of february in Berlin, was one of the topics of the demonstration.

The demo started at Herfurthplatz in Neukölln and was supposed to go to the federal police station on Tempelhofer Damm in Tempelhof, but already after some minutes bottles and stones got hurled on the police. The „contact-cop“ that is in charge of the communication between police and demonstrators got kicked in the back.
After 70 minutes the organizers canceled the demonstration. Left groups wen t through the streets and smashed windows. Police reports that as well some things were stolen from several stores.
