(en/fr)-Brussels - A non-demo at the detention centre; Office of Foreigners attacked in Brussels

BRUSSELS – After an open call for a demonstration near the new detention centre in Steenokkerzeel, about 150 people showed up and were welcomed by an army of hundreds of anti-riot police, cavalry, water cannon and a helicopter. The demo was prohibited. No demo took place, all demonstrators went away.

A few hours later, in Brussels, the Office of Foreigners (the central institution managing the detention centres, the asylum seekers, the deportations etc.) was attacked by tens of masked people. The entrance hall of the enormous building was smashed and smoke bombs and fireworks were thrown inside.

BRUXELLES – Un appel à manifester près du nouveau centre fermé de Steenokkerzeel n’a pas été apprécié par la police. 150 manifestants se trouvaient au rendez-vous à la gare de Nossegem, toute la zone autour de la gare et du centre occupée par des centaines de policiers anti-émeute, la cavalerie, une autopompe et un hélicoptère. Le bourgmestre avait d’ailleurs interdit la manifestation. A la fin, aucune manif n’a eu lieu, les manifestants ont tous pu s’en aller.

Quelques heures plus tard, à Bruxelles, l’Office des Etrangers (l’institution centrale qui gère les centres fermés, les déportations etc.) a été attaqué par des dizaines de personnes cagoulées. L’entrée de l’énorme bâtiment a été ravagée, des fumigènes et des feux d’artifice ont été jetés à l’intérieur.
