48-hour Naxal ‘Bharat Bandh’ against Kishanji’s killing

NAGPUR: The Naxals have declared a two-day countrywide strike on December 4 and 5 to protest the killing of Mallujola Koteshwar Rao, alias Kishanji, in an encounter in Junglemahal last week. The rebels also appealed to the masses to observe protest week from November 29 to December 5.

A press release by the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) slammed both central and state governments for orchestrating the fake encounter to kill Politburo member Kishanji. The rebels also criticized Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for plotting Kishanji’s killing.

The statement by spokesperson Abhay, representing the central committee of the banned outfit, was released on a pro-Naxal website. The statement highlighted Kishanji’s contribution and said that November 24, the day the popular leader was killed, would remain as a black day in the history of India’s revolution.

In the wee hours of Sunday, Naxals in Gadchiroli set afire government documents in a gram panchayat office at Malewada. They had also decamped with three computers from the Malewada gram panchayat office. It was also learnt that the rebels had gunned down a political leader at Pakhanjur in Chhattisgarh.
