Reportback from Portland's NYE jail solidarity noise demo

Tonight a group of about 20 folks, mostly in black, gathered outside the Donald E. Long juvenile detention center at 1401 NE 68th Avenue in Portland. Several anarchist slogans were spray-painted on the outer walls, including "Jail the guards, burn the prisons" and circle-A.

We played an anti-cop hip-hop and punk mix really loudly over our super awesome janky-ass bumping dance chariot (aka mobile sound system).

Rupture which occurred included but was not necessarily limited to:
-Kids inside pounded on the windows, danced to the music, and flicked lights in cells on and off
-Graffiti on the outer walls
-Smoke bombs thrown over the walls
-Martinelli's bottle thrown over the wall (unfortunately neither the bottle nor the wall broke)
-Roman candles set off
-Traffic was somewhat impeded for a few minutes here and there
-"Guilty or innocent, free all prisoners" and "None are free while some are in cages" banners thrown over the outer walls
-Unexpected solidarity from local residents
-Spontaneous dance party on the train home after the demo
[the echo of passing graves..]

It should be noted that there was almost zero police interference and no arrests.

Portland, Estados Unidos: Reporte de la manifestación anticarcelaria en la víspera de Año Nuevo

Esta noche, un grupo de alrededor de 20 personas, en su mayoría vestidos de negro, se reunieron fuera del Centro de Detención Juvenil Donald E. Long, que está ubicado en 1401 NE 68th Avenue, en Portland (estado de Oregón). Varias consignas anarquistas fueron escritas en las paredes exteriores, incluso el lema “Cárcel para los guardias, quemad las prisiones” y la “A” circulada.

Tocamos una combinación de hip-hop y punk canciones a través de nuestro sistema de sonido portátil. La ruptura que ocurrió incluía los siguientes hechos, pero sin limitarse necesariamente solo en estos:

- Los niños internos golpeaban las ventanas, bailaban con la música y hacían señales encendiendo y apagando las luces de las celdas.
- Pintadas fueron realizadas en las paredes exteriores.
- Una botella martinelli fue arrojada al muro (infelizmente no se rompió ni la botella ni el muro).
- Se encendieron velas romanas.
- El transito fue interrumpido por algunos minutos en varios lugares.
- Los lugareños mostraron un espirito de solidaridad que no se esperaba.
- Una espontanea fiesta de baile tuvo lugar en el tren, mientras regresábamos a casa.
- Dos pancartas fueron colgadas de los muros: “Libertad todos los presos, culpables o inocentes” y “Nadie es libre, mientras que otros viven en jaulas”. Hay que mencionar que no hubo casi ninguna interferencia policial.
